Ibiza, Spain Cities and Towns in Brief:

Ibiza Town, Ibiza Spain
Ibiza Town is the largest town in Ibiza. Many things happen here including, port of service, airport and many other things more to come soon.

San Antonio, Ibiza Spain
San Antonio (also Sant Antoni) is the second largest town in Ibiza, and is considered by British clubbers to be the clubbing capital of the world. It is situated on San Antonio Bay, on the west of Ibiza.

For two thousand years, San Antonio was a small fishing village, but it began to grow in the late 1950s when many hotels and tourist resorts were built as part of a mass tourism initiative which took place across Spain.

By the 1980s, San Antonio had acquired the stigma of being the holiday location of choice for British football hooligans, which lead to a decline in tourism in the area. However, it regained its popularity in the mid 1990s when it gained a reputation in Britain as having the best night clubs and DJs.

Young British clubbers make up the vast majority of visitors to the area, mostly attracted by programs such as the Ibiza Uncovered series on Sky television.

Santa Eulària des Riu , Ibiza Spain

Home of some of the islands greatest ‘fiestas’; like the centuries old ‘First Sunday in May’ (Catalan: Primer Duimenge d’ Mai), and the Easter Procession. It is home to a famous yacht harbour (small but enchanting and surrounded by shops and top-notch restaurants.

The 15th century mountan-top fortress church, Puig D’Missa overlooks the entire town and bay, and the same mountain is home of the living museum: ‘Can Ros’, which will give you an idea of how life was on the island (for centuries) before the tourist boom.

Santa Eulalia has long been home to artists and writers (see: author:Elliot Paul.1937-Title:”Life and Death of a Spanish Village”) and personalities from around the globe seeking tranquility and anonymity.

Ibiza, Spain Culture & Attractions:
Ibiza Island Culture and History Tours include the following:

Cova de Can Marçà
A turn-off to the right just before you enter Port de Sant Miquel, coming from the south, takes you around a headland to the Cova de Can Marçà, a collection of underground caverns spectacularly lit by background lights. Tours in various languages take 30-40min.

D’Alt Vila
D’Alt Vila is the old walled town; a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1999. The Romans were the first to fortify this hilltop, but the walls you see were raised by Felipe II in the 16th century to protect against invasion by French and Turkish forces. A ramp leads from Plaça de sa Font in Sa Penya up to the Portal de ses Taules gateway, the main entrance.

Museu Arqueològic
The archeological museum is next to the 14th century catedral at the top of the hill in D’Alt Villa, overlooking the city. It houses a fine collection of ancient relics, with a particular emphasis on objects from the Phoenician, Carthaginian and Roman periods.

Museu d’Art Contemporani
The Museum of Contemporary Art is in an 18th-century powder store and armoury. It features a constantly changing parade of exhibitions of contemporary art, much of it local. Behind the museum you can walk along the town walls and enjoy great views of the city, its harbour and the coast.

Necròpolis del Puig des Molins
An ancient burial ground dating from Phoenician times (as long ago as the 7th century BC), on an olive-tree dotted puig (hill). Follow the path around and peer into the north-south oriented burial caverns cut deep into the hill. You can descend into one interlocking series of these hypogea (burial caverns).

Sa Penya
There’s always something always going on portside. People-watchers will be right at home – this pocket must have one of the highest concentrations of exhibitionists and weirdos in Spain.
Sa Penya is crammed with dozens of funky and trashy clothing boutiques and the intense competition between the locally made gear and the imports keeps a lid on prices.
